The Fitch Law Firm Launches First-Ever Truck Accident Awareness Scholarship
$2,500 Award for Students Who Want to Make Our Roads Safer
At The Fitch Law Firm, our mission has always extended beyond the courtroom. We’ve spent over 30 years advocating for victims of truck accidents and standing up for safer roads across Ohio. Now, we’re excited to take that advocacy one step further by introducing our first annual Truck Accident Awareness Scholarship—a $2,500 academic award for a student who’s passionate about making a difference.
Why We’re Offering This Scholarship
We know that commercial trucks are the lifeblood of our economy. From groceries to gas, furniture to pharmaceuticals—so much of what we rely on gets to us because of the men and women behind the wheel of a truck. But we also know the devastating risks that come with that.
Truck accidents are on the rise. And when these massive vehicles collide with smaller passenger cars, the results can be catastrophic. We've seen firsthand how a single moment on the road can change someone’s life forever.
That's why we're calling on the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and changemakers to step up. We believe that students—our future engineers, journalists, teachers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs—can bring fresh, innovative ideas to the table. Together, we can rethink road safety and push for real, lasting change.
About the Scholarship
We’re awarding $2,500 to one outstanding student who can shed light on the growing concerns around truck safety—and offer solutions that could help reduce accidents and save lives. This scholarship is open to any undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited U.S. college or university.

No matter your major or field of study, we invite you to apply.
Who Can Apply?
You’re eligible for the Truck Accident Awareness Scholarship if you:

Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
-
Are currently enrolled in or accepted to an accredited U.S. college or graduate school
-
Are a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to attend school or work in the United States
-
Can write a 1,000–1,500 word original essay on the scholarship topic

Submit all application materials by the deadline using the official form

Agree to the scholarship’s terms and conditions
The Essay Prompt: Share Your Voice
We’re asking you to write a Public Safety Announcement (PSA) in essay format (1,000 to 1,500 words) that does two things:

Raises awareness about the current state of commercial truck accidents

Proposes a creative and practical solution to help make our roads safer—in Ohio and across the country
We encourage you to be creative and bold. Use your unique perspective and voice. You can focus on common causes of truck accidents like:

Fatigue or distracted driving

Speeding
-
Poor cargo loading
-
Substance use, including over-the-counter or prescription medications
You’re welcome to touch on any of these, or explore others. What we’re most interested in are viable, innovative solutions—ones that could actually work in the real world.
Deadline to Apply: June 15, 2023
We must receive your complete application by June 15, 2023. Unfortunately, we cannot consider late entries, so please don’t wait until the last minute to apply.
What Happens After You Submit?
Once we receive all applications, our team will carefully review each essay. We’re looking for originality, thoughtfulness, creativity, and a strong grasp of the issue.
The decision process may take one to three months, depending on how many applications we receive. If you’re selected as our first-ever scholarship winner, we’ll notify you directly—and we’d love to feature your story in a blog or press release (with your permission, of course).
